Free plush bear blog pattern

Bear Plushie / softie free pattern / tutorial:

You will need:

Tools:

Scissors
Long nose forceps
Pinking shears (optional)
Fray check (optional)
Pen

Materials:

( a ) A 12 inch wide by 7 inch high piece of plush or felt fabric at least
( b )A 4 inch by 2.5 inch piece of fabric of your choice for the tummy insert ( preferably non fray, or cut with pinking shears and outline with fray check)
( c ) A 2.5 inch by 1.5 inch piece of felt for the muzzle insert

Polyester stuffing
Thread for sewing
Embroidery floss for mouth
Safety eyes x 3, 2 x goggle, 1 x small black for nose

1. Print the free Plushie bear pattern, then glue the paper pattern to card board, when dry cut it out. (I find empty cereal boxes are perfect for this)

2. Fold the piece of fabric (a) in half so it measure 6 inch by 7 inch, right sides (fur) together.

3. Draw round the body pattern piece

4. Pin the fabric together

5. Sew down one side, starting at the ear, down the side nearest to the fold.

6. There are two options at this stage: (i) Easiest: continue to sew round the feet of the bear and up to the other ear, leave the space between the ears open for turning the bear. OR (ii) More Difficult: Unpin the fabric and unfold with the fabric now open find the centre and pin then sew the tummy insert into place. Fold the fabric back together and re-pin, then sew round the feet of the bear and up to the other ear, leaving the space between the ears open for turning.

7. Cut round the sewn bear and turn by hand or using long nose forceps

8. Pin muzzle in place and choose position of eyes, make holes and insert safety eyes and nose. Remove pins.

9. Embroider mouth detail of your choice.

10. Stuff bear, making sure you stuff snugly into the curls of his feet, and the little arms and ears.

11. Sew up head using ladder stitch.

12. Securely attach muzzle either using a ladder stitch or a running stitch. (If you haven’t yet done so now is the time to attach the tummy insert, using a running stitch.)

Your Plushie bear is now complete, feel free to do as you wish with your finished bear but please give me credit as the designer of the original pattern, and feel free to link back to the blog, thanks and hugs, I would love to see your finished Plushie. Enjoy Sammie :O) aka Quirky Critters xx

Well, my bear self has been busy creating lots of new critters for you to feast your eyes on. I finally finished a couple of mohair animes, ad two beary special shaggy animes. Sakura, a little winter wonder on ice-skates that i have to say I am thrilled with, this little sweetie can even stand on his hand made clay and ultra suede ice-skate, which is more than i can on the real thing, lol :O) The other shaggy anime is a special Valentines treat to steal your heart.

Hi there, got a few new creations to share, made some tiny Anime bears that are totaly hand sewn and fully jointed, the smallest is 1.5 inches, the tallest is 2.5 inches, Ishey, Anika, Koyubi and Chukai are so tiny they can surely fit into your hearts, I hope they give you a smile. Hi there, well finally here is Pipin, a shaggy felt Anime Bear who is ready for a picnic, "so if you go down to the woods today" you may just have company, lol. Seems Pipin was waiting for the finishing touches courtesy of the lovely Bub of BubsBeautifulCreations, (Hope i spelt it right). I received a wonderful swap package from Bub and in it along with the sweetest Anime Pooh bear was an amazing array of hand made hats and bonnets for bears and dolls, as soon as i saw the little number that now adorns Pipins head i new where it belonged, so a special thanks to Bub for sharing your talents so generously.

Hi Guys, well that didn't take long, we have a correct answer. Ponko, my Panda Plushie, my 100th bear was named after Ponko the stuffed penguin who belonged to photographer Herbert Ponting who made the famous journey with Captain Scott to Antarctica around 100 years ago. Ponting took Ponko with him on the journey, how sweet is that. Thanks for the interest, and Ponko will be making his way to his new Mum Lita very shortly. Hugs and smiles Sammie:O)

Panda Plushies

Working on some more Panda Plushies, and having fun with some new colors, Pixel sold on Ebay at the weekend and will shortly be winging his way to Canada, wonder if he can squeeze me in his luggage, LOL. Guess us Brits aren't getting a summer this year, ah well, more rain means more crafting....... And thank my lucky stars we're up on a hill, my heart goes out to all those who keep getting flooded.

Never new felt could be so fab to work with, having such a ball, needle felting features on to the bears, it gives them a whole new dimension.

Better get some sleep, so i can get crafting first thing before the kids get up, hugs Sammie:O)
